Happy Birthday "King"

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Today is the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His life and his words are very inspiring to me so I thought I'll share a few quotes from him:

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that

Next life

I received this quote by email, It is really interesting and funny! I tried to find out who have said it but was not too successful, in one webpage it was mentioned that it is from Valerie Kent, and another named it as being from Woody Allen. If you know who have said it please leave a comment! Well whoever have said it, have put some thought in it!

In my next life I want to live my life backwards. You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in an old people's home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day. You work for 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You party, drink alcohol, and are generally promiscuous, then you are ready for high school. You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play. You have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born. And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa like conditions with central heating and room service on tap, larger quarters every day and then Voila! You finish off as an orgasm! I rest my case.

The world

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.

Politics

In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.

Free Suu Kyi

Two quotes from Aung San Suu Kyi:

"The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear."

"What is there to be discouraged about? Gandhi said the victory is in
the struggle itself. The struggle itself is the most important thing. I tell
our followers that when we achieve democracy, we will look back
with nostalgia on the struggle and how pure we were."

Suu Kyi is the leader and one of the founders of Burma’s main opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD). In 1990 her party won the Burmese election by an overwhelming majority. But the ruling junta declared the results null and void and placed Suu Kyi under house arrest. As of today - 25 October 2007 - Aung San Suu Kyi has spent 12 of the last 18 years in detention.

Peace

"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free. True peace with one self and with the world around us can only be achieved through the development of mental peace."

Part of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's nobel speach, University Aula, Oslo, December 11th, 1989. His Holiness finished the talk with the following poem which as he said gives him inspiration.

New start

Nothing that I can do will change the structure of the universe. But maybe, by raising my voice I can help in the greatest of all causes – goodwill among men and peace on earth.
Albert Einstein

With this quote from Einstein I start this weblog.
My name as you see is Ali! I'm Iranian, came to Germany in 2002 to do my PhD and now am working as a Post Doctoral Biochemist here. I used to write with the nick name Alius in a group Persian weblog which has been filtered inside the country probably because of the subjects it was discussing (human rights and nonviolence!).
So I decided to write about my interests and hobbies here, human rights, Nonviolence, Science and many other things. I guess if you want to know more about me you can read this weblog.
If you like you can also check out my Bookstore for my favorite books and DVD's.
English is not my mother tongue so if I make mistakes in writing I'd be happy to receive friendly corrections.

If you happen to link to here add a comment so that I'll add you to my list of friends.
